About the Village
Hubbardston is a small village primarily in Ionia County, situated along the Clinton County line. The community began taking shape in the early 1850s around Fish Creek, where a dam and sawmill helped spark early growth and commerce. Platted in 1865 and incorporated in 1867, Hubbardston has since grown into a close knit rural village known today for its strong sense of community, small town character, and deep local roots.

To request a burn permit, you MUST leave all the following information:
- Your full name
- Your phone number
- The complete address of the burn
- The dates you are requesting
- What you intend to burn
Permits will NOT be issued without all required information.
Voicemail & Email Checks: The fire department voicemail is checked Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5:00 PM for burn-permit requests. Emails are preferred and checked daily. Please plan your burn accordingly.
After you request a permit: You will receive either a phone call or an email confirming whether your permit has been issued. If you do not receive a call or email back, no permit has been issued.
Contact Attempts: The fire department will only make 2 attempts to reach you.
If:
- Your voicemail is full
- You do not answer
- You do not leave complete information
Your permit cannot be issued.
Important: Please do not contact fire department members directly. All burn permits must be processed through the department by voicemail or email so they can be properly logged and reported to Ionia County Central Dispatch.

All regular council meetings are open to the public and held at the Fire Department. Residents are welcome to attend and observe the proceedings. Special meetings or executive sessions may have different rules.
Public comment periods are scheduled during regular council meetings. Sign up in advance or arrive early to be added to the speaker list.
